1 "rtcB" was previously named "hyp2". The function of this gene is still unknown but it is now named and better characterized. The name of this gene in M.jannaschii is MJ0682, in P.horikoshii PH1602 and in P.abyssi PAB0383. Details on this gene can be found in Genschik, Drabikowski & Filipowicz, J Biol Chem 273:25516-25526 (1998).
2 Ssp dnaE is a split intein - the N' and C' parts of the intein are found on different protein molecules: respectively, the N' and C' parts of the DNA polymerase III alpha subunit (DnaE or PolC). These two molecules are trans protein-spliced to form the mature DnaE protein.
